Java is the most densely populated island in the world and is renowned for its abundance of incredibly beautiful places. During your three-day expedition across the island, you’ll witness sunrises on active volcanoes, visit the world’s largest acidic crater lake, and at night experience one of nature’s wonders — the blue glow of sulfuric rocks. And if the weather is on your side, you’ll finish the journey with a visit to the Madakaripura Waterfall.

This tour is designed for adventure seekers and lovers of active travel. We've carefully selected the best hotels and crafted the itinerary to ensure you arrive at each location at the perfect moment for stunning photography.

However, it's important to keep in mind that Java is not as developed for tourism, and you should be prepared for an expedition-style experience. That means no almond milk flat whites in the morning, and at times it may be long, messy, or less comfortable than what you're used to in everyday life. But hundreds of people who have already joined this tour confidently say — it's absolutely worth it!
Before You Go
Itinerary
Your 3-day journey
from Bali to the jawa
Day 1.
Journey to Java
Your adventure begins! In the morning, you'll depart from Bali in a comfortable, air-conditioned minibus. The total travel time — along scenic roads and by ferry to the island of Java — is around 7 hours, with stops for lunch and rest along the way.

In the evening, you'll check into a hotel at the foot of Mount Ijen, enjoy dinner, and rest before the night ascent.
Day 2. Hike to Ijen
& Blue Flames
At night, an organized transfer will take you from the hotel to the base of Mount Ijen, where your guided trek to the volcano with the world’s largest acidic lake begins.

You’ll hike in complete darkness, accompanied by local guides. If the weather and volcanic conditions permit, you’ll witness one of nature’s most mesmerizing phenomena at sunrise — the “blue flames” of burning sulfur.
Day 2.
Sunrise at Mount Ijen
At 2,386 meters above sea level, you'll witness the sunrise with a breathtaking view of the world’s largest acidic lake. Along its shore lies a natural sulfur deposit, which has been mined by hand for over 700 years.

The water in the lake is warm — around 60°C (140°F). Beneath the lake sits the volcano’s magma chamber. Due to the lake’s depth and water density, the magma remains trapped below. Volcanologists monitor the activity daily, and if there's any sign of increased volcanic risk, access to the crater is immediately closed.
Day 2.
Sulfur Mining
Wearing respirators, you’ll descend directly into the crater to reach the lake. There, you’ll learn about the harsh reality of sulfur mining and witness the extraordinary labor of local workers. Miners climb out of the crater carrying baskets weighing up to 80 kg (176 lbs) on their shoulders.

You’ll spend approximately 6–7 hours on the volcano from the start of the hike. Afterward, you'll return to the hotel for a short rest, freshen up, and then hit the road again — this time heading toward Mount Bromo. The drive to the next hotel will take around 7 hours. Upon arrival, you'll check in and rest before your next sunrise ascent.
Day 3.
Sunrise at Mount Bromo
Your ascent begins before dawn. You’ll bundle up in warm clothes, hop into expedition jeeps, and head toward the viewpoint. From there, you'll witness a truly breathtaking sunrise over the dramatic volcanic landscape of East Java — with panoramic views of multiple active volcanoes.
Day 3. Jeep Ride
Across the Lava Field
After soaking in the views, you'll ride in jeeps across a dramatic lava field toward a sacred Hindu temple. Along the way, there will be plenty of scenic stops for incredible photos. The ride ends at the foot of Mount Bromo — from there, a short hike begins toward the crater.
Day 3. Hiking
the Bromo Crater
You can reach the volcano on foot in about 30 minutes or rent a horse for the ride. From there, a staircase of 250 steps leads you to the crater’s edge, where you'll witness the raw power of Mount Bromo — an active volcano billowing with smoke. It’s the perfect moment for epic photos.
Day 3. Waterfall & Journey Back Home
The next location is Madakaripura Waterfall, accessible only in dry weather. It's not included in the base tour price, but we always recommend visiting it before heading back to Bali.

If you're lucky with the weather, you'll walk through a lush jungle canyon to witness one of the most stunning waterfalls in Indonesia. After that, it’s time to head home.

You’ll have two options:
– Return by our private bus (approx. 15 hours)
– Or fly from Surabaya to Bali in just 1 hour
